VW Aero B: Latest updates of the new electric Passat

Officially confirmed long ago by Volkswagen, although not its name, the VW Aero B 100% electric saloon project continues to advance and is already in the testing phase.

Yes, there is no doubt: Volkswagen will probably launch a new 100% electric sedan on the market in 2023 which, to understand us, could be considered a zero-emission Passat that will hit the roads to become a new rival for the successful Tesla Model 3. However, at the moment we cannot confirm the name: we only know that the project is moving forward with the name Aero B, which may not be the definitive one.

But it will come, it is certain. In fact, during an annual media conference held at the beginning of the year, the company’s CEO, Herbert Diess, confirmed the existence of a new vehicle based on Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle platform, alluding to the Aero project B by 2023 as an electric alternative to the Passat. Well, now, this model in development has already been hunted by spy photographers.

This Will Be the New Volkswagen Electric Saloon

As we can see in some international media such as Carscoops, the new sedan is already rolling in the last phase of testing and with little camouflage, so the definitive features of its bodywork can already be seen quite clearly. After the compact ID.3, the SUVs ID.4  and ID.5, and the van ID.Buzz, the German brand will thus launch a new electric vehicle in 2023, the first in a sedan format.

Already presented as a concept under the name of ID.Vizzion, the new series model has a very similar silhouette. With a fairly aerodynamic line, fine optics, and a slightly sloping roofline at the rear, the saloon has a good sporty look, which also ends with a fairly pronounced rear spoiler.

According to the first information provided by the brand, the new Volkswagen sedan should start production at the Emden plant (in Germany) in 2023. At the moment its specifications are unknown, but if we look at the latest Vizzion Space concept, it opted for an 82 kWh capacity battery pack, with a rear electric motor of up to 275 CV and total autonomy of 590 kilometers, according to the WLTP cycle. Then, the brand also confirmed that it could adopt an all-wheel-drive variant, with another front engine with 100 hp of extra power that would cause, together, a development of up to 335 hp.

However, once it reaches the market, it is also expected above all that it can mount a drive unit taken from the current VW ID.4, with a rear-wheel-drive version with 201 hp as an access variant, and with a superior all-wheel drive that can raise its performance to 295 hp.

At the moment it is all the information that we can confirm about the arrival on the market of this new 100% electric sedan from Volkswagen. But surely it will not take many weeks to learn new details of what it will be like. We will keep telling you!
