The Toyota Corolla Cross will finally conquer Europe after Thailand, Japan, and the USA in 2022 – then exclusively hybrid. Toyota has not yet revealed a price.
With the Toyota Corolla Cross (2022), the Japanese are further expanding their SUV portfolio at a price not yet known in Europe, after the compact SUV has already celebrated its market launch in Thailand, Japan, and the USA. With a length of 4.46 meters, it fits exactly into the gap between the C-HR and RAV4. The design is more pleasing than that of its little brother but more exciting than that of the RAV4.
The technical basis is the TGNA-C platform (Toyota New Global Architecture), which it shares with its compact namesake Corolla, among others. The cockpit is also very reminiscent of the compact car. This is the first time that Toyota is using digital instruments that are displayed on a 12.3-inch screen. Five doors, an elevated seating position, and probably (data on the European Corolla Cross are still missing) 440 liters of trunk volume (487 liters without spare wheel) make the Toyota Corolla Cross (2022) an all-rounder suitable for everyday use, optionally even with all-wheel drive. With the front-wheel drive, on the other hand, increased ground clearance and robust plastic planking must be sufficient for off-road excursions.
ONLY AS A HYBRID
European customers can choose between two drive variants for the Toyota Corolla Cross (2022), which are always designed as full hybrids: front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Both rely on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, which, however, has different technical data depending on the version. Let’s start with the Corolla Cross Hybrid FWD: Here, 171 internal combustion engines meet 113 electric horsepower on the front axle, which adds up to 197 horsepower system output. In this configuration, the SUV needs 8.1 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h.
The all-wheel-drive variant called AWD-i is supplemented by an electric motor on the rear axle, which provides 30.6 kW (42 PS) of power if required. Because the combustion engine is weaker here with 152 hp, both the system performance and the acceleration time remain identical. In all Corolla Cross, a continuously variable automatic transmission (e-CVT) takes over the traction. A comprehensive safety package and the integration of modern assistance systems round off the Toyota Corolla Cross (2022). The market launch in Europe is planned for autumn 2022.

Since the SUV is positioned between C-HR and RAV4, a price of around 40,000 euros is realistic.
