The Cupra Raval is presented. An electric compact made in Spain that will arrive in 2025

A few hours ago, Wayne Griffiths, CEO of SEAT and CUPRAhas officially confirmed during the Barcelona motor show the name of the brand’s future urban electric car, the CUPRA Raval. A name that serves as a tribute to the Raval neighborhood, in the heart of Barcelona, and that will be in charge of opening an era of reasonable prices in the division of the German group.

According to the head of Cupra: “The CUPRA Raval is not just another car. It is the invitation to a new generation, which expects something better. An urban, rebellious, and 100% electric car, with its own character and linked to ‘Generation Z’. something more emotional”.

The brand has created the most radical interpretation of CUPRA in an urban electric car inspired by the world of competition.

The CUPRA Raval will be produced at the SEAT headquarters in Martorell. The company will invest 3,000 million euros for its transformation from combustion to electrification and to produce electric cars from 2025 based on the MEB Small platform of the Volkswagen Group. SEAT SA leads the urban electric car cluster for different brands of the Volkswagen Group.

This will be the Cupra Raval

The Raval will be a compact 4.03 meters long, which will place it in the Renault ZOE segment. Due to the presence of the battery pack in the underbody, it will have a considerable height (1.57 meters). It is expected to use a typical suspension scheme for its segment; that is, MacPherson struts in front and torsion beam behind.

Initially, the Raval will be available with two battery packs: one with LFP (lithium-ferrophosphate) cells of approximately 40 kWh, which should allow it to exceed 300 km WLTP autonomy, and another with NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) cells. of about 60 kWh with which it will approve a maximum range of 440 km WLTP.

Some batteries that will also be produced in Spain, specifically in the factory that Volkswagen is preparing in the Valencian town of Sagunto.

The Raval production is scheduled for 2025and has the challenge of placing its price below the 25,000 euros before aid. Quite a challenge if we take into account that currently getting an equivalent model, the Renault ZOE with a 50 kWh battery, costs from 36,230 euros without fast charging. An extra that adds an additional 1,100 euros.

We can also compare those 25,000 euros with the rates of its older brother, the Cupra Born, which in its version with a 58 kWh battery starts at 42,800 euros.
