The BYD Seagull is the most promising low-cost Chinese electric car, and it will start sales in April

A few hours ago, the Chinese media reported the sighting of a BYD Seagull on the roads of the Asian giant. A model of the Ocean family that will become BYD’s cheapest electric carand now, in addition to new images, we also have new technical details.

The Seagull will be a compact and mainly urban electric, but it will be somewhat larger than expected. Its final dimensions will be 3.78 meters long, 1.71 wide, with a height of 1.54 meters. All with a wheelbase of 2500 mm.

This places it 34.5 centimeters below its older brother, the BYD Dolphin, and at the level of proposals such as the Toyota Yaris or the FIAT Panda.

The car will have self-developed LFP (lithium-ferrophosphate) batteries that are estimated to be around 30 kWh in your version of access, which will provide you 265 km autonomy CLTC. It will also have a second pack that will be around 45 kWhwhich will allow you to travel up to 408 km.

It is expected that a third pack will also be added later with sodium cells. A technology for which BYD will bet heavily in the coming years to reduce the cost of its electric vehicles (remember that sodium is more abundant and affordable than lithium). The engine for its part will yield 75 CV (55 kW).
