In the absence of a little more than a month until the end of this year 2021, it is time to collect the most outstanding automotive news scheduled for 2022. This is our selection with the 14 most important releases of the coming year.
The new generation Kia Sportage launches platform, shows a new stylistic language, receives more equipment and presents a diversity of electrified motors. Measures 4.51 meters long (3 cm more than the protruding model) and for the trunk announces a capacity of up to 591 liters. The main novelties come with the premiere of a conventional hybrid (HEV) and another plug-in (PHEV). In both, the main heat engine is the 1.6 T-GDI with 180 hp. In the HEV hybrid, it is combined with a 44.2 kW (60 hp) electric motor powered by a 1.49 kWh capacity battery. The total power is 230 hp. For its part, the PHEV uses another 66.9 kW (91 hp) electric motor, plus a 13.8 kWh battery.
With an improved style, a greater technological load, more equipment and a range of engines that deepens its electrification, the updated Ford Fiesta He hopes to make a new leap that allows him to get closer to the great leaders of the segment, such as the Seat Ibiza or the Dacia Sandero. It features a more expressive design and includes LED headlights for the first time in all its variants. Inside bet on a new digital instrumentation of 12.3 inches. Ford expands 48V EcoBoost micro-hybrid technology, with a 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid in 125 and 155 hp versions. In gasoline, this 1.0 EcoBoost engine is also offered with 100 hp without micro-hybridization. As a sporty and superior version, the new Ford Fiesta ST 2022 appears, with a 1.5 EcoBoost 200 hp engine.
To the new Mercedes EQE you can describe it as the “Electric E-Class”, although it would almost be more correct to identify it as a scaled EQS. Mercedes has only announced an initial version in the range (although an AMG aesthetic finish will be available): the EQE 350 has a single engine on the rear axle, with 286 hp and 530 Nm. More powerful versions with 4×4 traction will come later. Its battery has a capacity of 90 kWh and announces a range of 660 km, according to the WLTP homologation cycle. It can be charged in direct current fast recharge systems up to 170 kW: in 15 minutes you will have the capacity to travel 250 km. Add to it the arsenal of safety assistants: signal reader, lane change assistant, emergency braking… and a fatigue detection system that is attentive to the driver’s blinks.
VW POLO GTI
The sportier version of the Polo It adopts the main lines that we have already seen in the utility but also includes a red stripe on the fan grill and a honeycomb panel to cover it. Inside, the great change comes with sport seats with the classic checkered design. Behind, the GTI acronym they are the absolute protagonists. The Polo’s most performance option comes with its 2.0 TSI with a power of 207 hp and a reduction in its height of 15 millimeters compared to other versions. It also maintains its seven-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox, as well as its four driving modes: Eco, Individual, Normal and Sport.
The first 100% electric vehicle of the Spanish sports brand, the Cupra born, begins its commercialization with the 150 kW (204 hp) version and with a 58 kWh capacity battery, which allows it to homologate 424 km of autonomy (WLTP). At the end of the year, the arrival of more powerful versions with more range is expected: in this case with a power of 231 HP, thanks to the optional “e-Boost” pack, and with two battery options, the aforementioned 58 kWh or of 77 kWh, which increases the total autonomy of the electric compact up to 540 km. It will have a starting price of 38,610 euros and will be eligible for discounts of up to 7,000 euros from the MOVES III Plan.
VOLVO C40 RECHARGE
The new C40 Recharge has the honor of be the first Volvo vehicle conceived from its inception as a purely electric car. To propel itself, it will use two electric motors (one on the front axle and the other on the rear) of 300 kW (about 408 hp). Both electric motors will be “fed” by the energy stored in a 78 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery. According to Volvo, this vehicle will accept various types of cargo, including the fast type. In the latter case, it is ensured that 80 percent battery charge can be reached in approximately 40 minutes. In the absence of definitive homologation data, an autonomy of about 420 km is announced.
To the new and unpublished Dacia Jogger we can consider it as an authentic vehicle of the “Swiss army knife” type., with a multitude of practical and functional solutions. As proof, its 24 liters of extra storage spaces spread throughout the vehicle. It can be configured with 5 or 7 seats, in three rows in configuration: 2 + 3 + 2. The load capacity in the trunk varies according to the 5-seat version (between 708 and 842 liters with the 5 usable seats) and the 7-seat version (with 160/213 liters with the three rows of seats unfolded). The range of engines will consist of a 110 hp 1.0 TCe petrol engine and the ECO-G 100 petrol and LPG bi-fuel variant (with the ECO label). In 2023 it will offer a non-plug-in hybrid version.
The Honda’s new compact SUV, the HR-V, receive the Proven e: HEV hybrid technology for an agile and enjoyable driving experience. It incorporates two compact high-power electric motors, one acting as a generator and the other as a propeller, connected to a 1.5-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine, with a power of 96 kW (131 hp) and a maximum torque of 253 Nm at 4500 rpm. The entry version to the range will be called Elegance and the brand announces a price of 30,500 euros. As standard equipment it already has LED lights, heated front seats, 18 ”wheels and advanced connectivity for smarthpone, among other elements.
Revolutionary sixth generation of the compact Opel Astra. At the moment, the range will only have the 5-door body. It will be the first electrified Astra, initially, with plug-in hybrid versions, although a fully electric variant is not ruled out in the future – estimated in 2023 -. There will be two PHEVs, always with the 1.6 PureTech engine as a starting point but with a different power level: 150 or 180 hp for, once combined with the 110 hp electric motor and 12.4 kWh batteries, globally yield 180 and 225 hp, respectively. In gasoline, the 1.2T engine can be served with powers of 110 and 130 hp. For diesel, 1.5D engine with 130 hp.
RENAULT MÉGANE E-TECH ELECTRIC
The new Mégane arrives 100% electric and with many aesthetic details typical of SUVs, with a high body with respect to the ground and very marked wheel arches, among others. It announces two versions: a less powerful one with a 96 kW engine (about 131 hp), a 40 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery and a range of about 300 km in the WLTP homologation cycle; and secondly, a more powerful 160 kW (218 hp), with a 60 kWh battery and a range of about 450 km. In both cases, the battery is centrally positioned under the vehicle floor and the engine is located on the front axle driving the front wheels.
The unpublished VW Taigo is the third model from the Navarra factory and the first coupe in the Volkswagen SUV range. The MQB-A0 platform was used for its construction, the same as the Polo. Its bodywork, obviously, is marked by the descending line that closes the set in its rear part. Despite this, habitability is not compromised inside. Its wheelbase is two and three millimeters longer than the Polo and the T-Cross, respectively. It will only be available with the 1.0 tricilíndricos petrol blocks of 95 and 110 CV and the tetracilíndrico 1.5 of 150 CV. In terms of safety, the main semi-autonomous driving systems are included in the so-called IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist.
CITROËN C5 X
TO halfway between a saloon, an SUV and even a station wagon, the new Citroën C5 X It reaches the market with a price starting at 30,900 euros. Since its launch, it will have a plug-in hybrid version, consisting of a 180 hp PureTech gasoline engine, an 81 kW electric drive and a 12.4 kWh lithium-ion battery. In total, it has 225 hp, announces a 100% electric autonomy of more than 50 kilometers. The rest of the offer consists of two PureTech gasoline engines, in versions of both 130 and 180 HP of power. Both are exclusively associated with the EAT8 8-speed automatic gearbox.
AUDI RS 3
Audi already accepts orders for its new compact sports RS 3. The price of the Sportback version is 74,870 euros and 75,840 euros for the Sedan. To propel himself, he resorts to the new evolution of the 400 hp 2.5 TFSI turbo five-cylinder petrol engine, with a declared maximum torque of 500 Nm. The two versions offer as standard the 19-inch alloy wheels in 265/30 tires on the front axle and 245/35 on the rear, the black optics package, the mixed Dinamica microfiber and leather upholstery, Atlas carbon inserts on the dashboard and the RS chassis with suspension lowered 10 mm compared to the Audi S3 and anti-theft alarm.
BMW i4 M50
The Spectacular new grand 4-door coupe from BMW will count as a more powerful version with this i4 M50, equipped with electric motors on the front and rear axle to offer a combined power of 544 hp. It includes M-specific chassis technology, and promises a range of up to 510 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. Their combined electricity consumption is estimated between 24 and 19 kWh / 100 km. It will also be the first BMW M with fully electric traction. Without ever sacrificing sportiness, the high-voltage battery cells are only 110mm high and sit under the floor, also significantly lowering the center of gravity.
