The long-awaited renewal of the Model S and Model X has brought with it the appearance of Plaid sports variants, which replace the previous Performance models. Compared to the latter, the Model S Plaid and Model X Plaid are characterized by having a powertrain made up of three engines (Tri Motor) instead of two (Dual Motor).
This wild set provides them with a combined power of 1,020 hp (750 kW). The Model S in particular is capable of completing 0 to 60 miles per hour (0-96.6 km / h) in just 1.99 seconds, reaching a top speed of 322 km / h. Its autonomy is located at 628 km EPA, while charging times have been optimized compared to its predecessor, being able to recover about 300 km in 15 minutes.
Despite this impressive display of benefits, many media have harshly criticized this proposal, which has been described as “unbalanced.” Why? To get started, Consumer Reports and Edmunds have pointed out that the use of a steering wheel without a full rim (yoke steering wheel) leads to control problems in sporty driving.
However, the criticisms do not stop there, because Track Day claims that the braking equipment is not up to the vehicle’s hypercar performance, while Throttle House He ruled after his review that it is a model whose steering, suspension, brakes and weight make it not recommended for the circuit, a fast result only in a straight line.
Tesla will commercialize the kit in mid-2022
Apparently, Tesla is now trying to fix one of its flagship’s main problems with the launch of a $ 20,000 carbon-ceramic brake kit that will help to improve the vehicle’s behavior in sporty driving. This kit will arrive in mid-2022 associated with the 21-inch Arachnid wheels. The front discs will be 410 x 40 millimeters on the front axle and 410 x 32 millimeters on the rear, while the forged calipers will have six pistons at the front and four at the rear.
“Designed for the best track experience, the Model S Plaid carbon-ceramic brake kit is a complete hardware pack that offers maximum stopping power and repeatable during sporty driving. The kit […] provides maximum durability at high temperatures and heat management, includes one-piece forged calipers with high-performance pads and high-temperature brake fluid.
