Renault Kadjar 2022: facelift and renewed interior

The brand continues with the development work of the second generation of an SUV that is expected to be much more advanced.

The Kadjar is an essential model in the Renault range. As a compact family-sized SUV, it is in a successful segment for any manufacturer and the French are no exception. For this reason, the arrival of its second generation is awaited with great expectation, which will be produced next year with a completely renewed product.

During the last months, some spy photos of the development of the new Kadjar have been leaked, which anticipate the evidence that it is a groundbreaking concept with the current one. Its design draws on the new stylistic trend already presented with the new Mégane, which represents the first step on the ladder that the diamond brand is willing to ascend with highly sophisticated, technological, connected, and, of course, electrified products.

In the case of the Kadjar, the platform of the also renewed Nissan Qashqai is taken as part of its industrial alliance. But Renault goes its way in terms of aesthetics and approach, contemplating options such as a coupe-style variant (with the steeper rear roof drop, which today materializes the Arkana) and another seven-seater. All with a more current and forceful style, closer to the proposals of premium manufacturers, in a challenge that is giving such good results to brands like Hyundai with its new Tucson.

Renault Kadjar 2022 Connected interior

Until its launch is scheduled for next spring, unofficial information about the new Renault continues. Also with interior images of the development units that, in the same way, recall the technological interior of the new Mégane. Fully digital instrumentation, configurable by the driver, is completed with another large central touch screen, which is intended for all the multimedia and connectivity functionalities of the vehicle.

The new Kadjar follows, therefore, the most current trend in the market, but surely provides new solutions that allow an advantageous positioning in it. It comes after its cousin the Nissan Qashqai and will have to earn its place against highly qualified competitors in this busy segment, so it is foreseeable that Renault intends to go a step further on some of these issues.

Combustion and electrification

The electrification of the range is another of the priorities of Luca de Meo’s project for the brand, which does not mean that the traditional combustion engines, essential for an orderly transition towards the decarbonization of mobility, are abandoned.

Renault Kadjar 2022

There are doubts about whether the new Renault Kadjar will have diesel versions in its offer, although it is not unreasonable to think that the focus is exclusively on gasoline. Some would be those already known in the Qashqai, with micro-hybrid support and powers between 140 and 180 hp.

But Renault promises more electrification for the Kadjar 2022, with a conventional hybrid and a plug-in option. The electrical support would allow enjoying optimal performances without the need to resort to large combustion units. Thus, it is speculated with a three-cylinder and 1.2 liters for a hybrid of about 190 CV, while the PHEV variant would put to work an electric motor in tune with another gasoline already four-cylinder and 1.5 liters, to overcome widely the 250 hp barrier.

Renault Kadjar 2022

We will still have to wait a few weeks to know in detail the new Renault Kadjar, called to be one of the leading players in the market next year, sharing that attention with another of the brand’s key models such as the new Mégane. And taking the latest generation of the popular compact as a reference, it should not be ruled out that in the medium term the SUV offer will be expanded with a 100% electric variant.
