Peugeot 5008 2023: Will Have An Electric Version

The third generation of the Peugeot 5008 will hit the market sometime in 2023. Peugeot’s well-known seven-seater SUV will debut major improvements. Among them is a 100% electric version. Electrification will play a key role in mechanical supply.

In the short term, the second generation of the Peugeot 5008 will be updated with a major facelift. A facelift that will allow this model to face the rest of its commercial life that lies ahead of it before a generational change takes place. The novelties that will be introduced will be key so that this SUV can position itself as one of the most attractive options in the D segment. Even more so when some of its most direct rivals are going to be renewed or enter the world of electrification.

The launch of the new 5008 2021 is scheduled for next September. However, and even though a mid-cycle update is something very relevant, the truth is that Peugeot has already set its sights on the third generation of the 5008. A few weeks ago we echoed some very interesting statements by Gilles Vidal, Head of Design at Peugeot, who spoke directly of the approach they want to give to the next generation of the 5008.

For Vidal, increasing practicality is one of the determining keys of the development process that will have to be faced soon, but not the only one. Another goal that the lion’s signature has set itself is neither more nor less than to make 5008 “sexier”.

Thanks to an internal source, new and interesting details have been released that allow us to clarify some of the keys to the Peugeot 5008 III. The third generation is known internally with the code P74 and will be available in both a five- and seven-seater version. And according to this new information, the five-seater version will have greater space in the rear seats.

Peugeot hopes that, by improving the cabin space, the 5008 will have more arguments to captivate the Chinese public. The project was initially envisioned as an exclusively five-seat vehicle to give preference to both China and North America. However, to avoid losing market share in Europe, it has been decided to offer, once again, the possibility of equipping the third row of seats.

Electrification will be key in the new Peugeot 5008 (P74)

The third generation Peugeot 5008 will share architecture with the 3008 III. It will be supported by the eVMP platform and electrification will play a leading role. The 48-volt Mild Hybrid technology will be present. A step above there will be various plug-in hybrid versions (PHEV) and, as a more compromised option. There will be a 100% electric version.

The electric version of the 5008 can be configured with one or two motors to deliver a maximum power of 250 kW (340 hp). The plug-in hybrid versions will use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission instead of the current EAT8 gearbox. The only diesel option will be a 1.5-liter BlueHDi engine and the gasoline supply will revolve around the 1.2-liter PureTech engine.

When will it hit the market? The launch of the third generation of the Peugeot 5008 is scheduled for sometime in 2023.
