Peugeot’s star project for 2022, its new compact coupé SUV could finally be called 408 Cross. We advance all its details.
Finally, it seems that the new SUV that Peugeot is already finalizing in development will be called 408 Cross. Thus, at least, it is already announced today by numerous international media that, such as Carscoops or Kolesa.ru, have been able to capture new spy photos of the model in the last phase of testing on the Internet or publish the first illustrations. We, of course, we’re not in the wrong direction.
And it is that, while the logic suggested that the name would be Peugeot 4008, recovering the brand this denomination to place it between its SUV 3008 and 5008, in autospias.com we already revealed to you two months ago that in France they began to speculate with the denomination 408 Crossover. Now, everything indicates that it will finally be 408 Cross… although at the moment there is no official confirmation and any option is still possible.
WITH NEW EMP2 PLATFORM
The novelty, denomination aside, is that new information continues to arrive about an SUV coupé that could debut on the market as early as the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023. The new Peugeot 408 Cross would always be developed under the latest evolution of the EMP2 platform of the Stellantis Group, an architecture that already serves as the basis for the new Peugeot 308, DS 4, Opel Astra, and even Citroën C5 X. The latter would be the closest relative in terms of dimensions and proportions concerning the new French SUV.
Prowling like this perhaps a length that should range between 4.70 and 4.80 meters, the new Peugeot 408 Cross would now bet on a fastback-style SUV body, with an integrated rear spoiler and a notable roof drop to give that coupe silhouette already announced. The height to the ground seems to be higher than conventional compacts, although offering good aerodynamics that will bring it closer to a sports crossover than to an SUV to use.

With new LED-type lighting, specific and unprecedented rims, and new rear graphics similar to those already offered by the Peugeot 308 GT, this new SUV will also bet on technology and the brand’s special i-cockpit environment, offering a Very advanced and sophisticated interior. A proposal that will also be transferred to the mechanical range.
PEUGEOT 408 CROSS 2023: THIS WILL BE ITS RANGE OF ENGINES
And it is that, according to the first information, the new Peugeot 408 Cross will adopt the new mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid propulsion systems of the brand, thus maintaining the complete commitment to the electrification of the French firm. There is even speculation about a possible 100% electric variant, since the platform is compatible with this technology as the new Peugeot e-308 and Opel Astra-e have already been confirmed, two models that will hit the market in 2023.
Continuing in this way the current range of the brand, we are already betting that the star version, as is the case today with the Peugeot 3008, will be the plug-in hybrid, which combines a 1.6-liter PureTech gasoline engine with one or two electric motors. , capable of producing a total of between 180 and 225 hp in its front-wheel-drive versions, and up to 355 hp with all-wheel drive.
The 1.2 PureTech 3-cylinder petrol option in combination with the 48-volt micro-hybrid technology, as well as the 130 hp 1.5 BlueHDi diesel, would be other alternatives available in the new coupé SUV from the French brand. There is less left to know all its official details.
