While Ford eliminates the production of the Fiesta in Europe, and other brands are rethinking the future of their utilities, Opel continues to bet on the Corsa, which will arrive very renewed in 2023.
Opel will not kill the Corsa. At least, not shortly. Unlike Ford, which has already announced in Europe the end of production of the historic Fiesta in 2023 after almost 50 years of existence, the German mara is already developing a new Corsa that will continue to fight in a segment dominated by models such as the Seat Ibiza. , the Peugeot 208 or, yes, a Dacia Sandero that continues to surprise with its low-cost approach.
And is that Opel at the moment is not rethinking its strategy in the segment, also unlike Volkswagen which has also doubted in recent years about the advisability or not of continuing to maintain a model as traditional as the Polo. The new Corsa is already in the testing phase and, although the bodywork is still camouflaged as spy photographers from some international media such as Carscoops have captured, it already tells us that its launch will not take more than a year to take place.
ALL THE NEWS OF THE UTILITY
But what can we expect from the new Opel Corsa? Launched its current generation in 2019, it is time to update in the middle of the current life cycle. Developed under the same platform as the Peugeot 208 (both brands that are now part of the Stellantis Group), the Corsa will now try to improve its appeal to face two models in Europe that have ended up surpassing it, such as the 208 itself or the Renault Clio.
And, to begin with, it will try to overcome this by renewing its image, especially through a new front that takes the new features of the brand already seen in the new Grandland and Astra. Opel intends to announce this new Corsa for the first time at the beginning of 2023, adding at the same time some more subtle innovations that will affect new optics, bumpers, body colors, or types of tires, among other elements under review.

Inside, no great news is expected for the new Opel Corsa, although of course its cabin will be modernized with the update of the information and entertainment system. Forget about finding the controversial cockpit environment of the Peugeot 208 here, because the environment of the Corsa will be more traditional and less risky ergonomically speaking.
NEW ELECTRIC VERSION CORSA-E
The mechanical range of the new Opel Corsa will include, as up to now, 3-cylinder gasoline engine options, with the 1.2T engine with 100 and 130 HP of power, while the diesel, which is only offered in some specific markets, is very probable that it will continue not to be marketed in Spain and will also be abandoned in general.

Where news should come is the very interesting 100% electric Opel Corsa-e, which will almost certainly include the news that the Peugeot e-208 has just been released, with which it shares a base and components. This renewal would lead him to offer a new engine, previously also released in the Peugeot e-308, already with 156 CV (115 kW) instead of the current 136 CV (100 kW). With this, the utility must improve its thrust by 15 percent, approving consumption of only 12 kWh per 100 kilometers.
With these novelties, autonomy is also expected to be up to 10 percent improved, already announcing a total range of 400 kilometers today in the Peugeot e-208. It will also include a new, more efficient high-voltage battery, already with a gross capacity of 51 kWh capacity (48.1 kWh usable capacity), and capable of operating at 400 volts.
