Carlos Tavares, CEO of the Stellantis group , has taken the controls of the new Maserati GranTurismo Folgore for the Formula E E-Prix in Rome. This model will be one of the first 100% electric models of the transalpine firm, and its arrival on the market is scheduled for 2023.
The design of the new GranTurismo has been practically exposed in the images shared by the brand itself. Although still covered by a light camouflage, the main lines of the vehicle can be seen, which will sport the same design language as the brand’s latest proposals, the MC20 supercar, and the Grecale SUV.
The headlamps in vertical format are somewhat reminiscent of those of the pre-restyling Jaguar F-Type, while the grille is blinded to improve the car’s aerodynamics. Since it will also have thermal versions, the Folgore has a classic sports car profile, with a long hood, a passenger compartment set back on the rear axle, and a shortened rear.
The images of Tavares with the GranTurismo Folgore have made it possible to clarify one of the main unknowns surrounding the model, which will not see its rear seats removed to house the battery pack. Therefore, it will continue to be a 2+2 similar in its approach to models such as the iconic Porsche 911, which will ultimately become one of its main rivals.

Although the thermal versions of the GranTurismo will have a 2.0 turbo mild-hybrid and the 3.0 V6 Biturbo “Nettuno” already seen in the MC20, the electric Folgore will stand out thanks to a wild powertrain made up of three propellers (one on the front axle, two in the rear) that will allow it to become the most powerful street Maserati in history.
Everything indicates that the Italian sports car will be around 1,200 hp, a figure more worthy of a hypercar than a grand tourer. It is expected that it can complete the 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds; In addition, you will enjoy an 800-volt electrical system, which will allow you to charge at powers of up to 300 kW in direct current.
The GranTurismo, like its predecessor, will have a convertible variant called GranCabrio. From a technical standpoint, the coupe and convertible will be identical; therefore, the Folgore GranCabrio will be one of the most performing open-roof electric cars on the international scene.
