After the Ioniq 5, Hyundai’s new purely electric vehicle will be the Ioniq 6, a sedan with clean lines and a certain retro touch that will be based on the Prophecy EV Concept.
Hyundai’s ambitious goal is to be a carbon-neutral manufacturer (without CO2 emissions) by 2045. To achieve this goal, pure electric vehicles and those equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell will be two of the cornerstones of the brand for the coming years, hence the family of “zero emissions” cars of the Ioniq range is adding little to little new members.
After the already well-known Ioniq 5, Hyundai has just officially confirmed the next Ioniq 6 during the first of the press days of the Munich Motor Show 2021. The definitive production vehicle will draw much of its design inspiration from the aesthetic lines already advanced by the Prophecy EV prototype.
The new Ioniq 6 will be based on the flexible modular E-GMP technical platform specific to electric vehicles, the same architecture that both the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6 first debuted.
On the specific technical characteristics that the next Ioniq 6 will have, At the moment Hyundai has not advanced any details, but everything indicates that it will share many of the already known data of the Ioniq 5. In this way, the final production vehicle will be able to offer at least two types of batteries (58 or 72, 6 kWh capacity, in all probability). 170 HP versions with a single electric motor on the rear axle (rear-wheel drive) and 235 HP with two motors (one on each axle and AWD all-wheel drive) could also be available, in both cases associated with the lower capacity battery ( 58 kWh). On the other hand, linked to the large 72 kWh battery, it should be possible to choose versions of 218 hp (a single-engine located in the rear axle) and 306 hp (two engines, one per axle and all-wheel drive).

In terms of battery charging times, the new Ioniq 6 will support various types of charging, including a fast / ultra-fast type in direct current. In the latter case, the Asian brand ensures that the battery charge level can go from 10 to 80 percent in about 18 minutes (and in just 5 minutes you could get a sufficient battery charge to be able to travel about 100 kilometers). On the other hand, the total autonomy, according to versions, should approach 500 kilometers.
According to the unofficial information that Autopista.es has had access to, the new Ioniq 6 will be ready for sale at the end of 2022, and in the current range of the brand, it will be positioned as a natural substitute for the Ioniq that is marketed in hybrid versions. plug-in hybrid and one hundred percent are electric.
In the interior, digitization and modern design of the entire interior should look similar in appearance to that offered inside the Ioniq 5, with a large instrument panel behind the wheel with a digital display up to 12 inches in size. In the case of the screen located in an intermediate area of the dashboard and from which all the functions related to the multimedia information, entertainment, connectivity, and navigation system are handled, its size should also be around 12 inches. Onboard, occupants will be able to enjoy entertainment downloaded to their smartphones by offering an entertainment and connectivity system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technologies.
