The sports divisions M Motorsport and BMW are already developing the new M2 2022, a vehicle that promises great driving sensations and that will surely not disappoint the brand’s unconditional fans.
Amid so much electrification and hybridization, true car enthusiasts miss “claw cars” and classic mechanical settings. In the case of BMW, its sporting hallmarks have always been linked to rear propulsion, and one of the latest models of the firm that will be able to inherit the most faithful spirit of the German brand could be the new generation of the M2, a vehicle that the sports division M Motorsport is already fine-tuning.
According to the unofficial information that we have had access to, the official premiere of the new M2 should take place throughout 2022, the year in which M Motorsport will be immersed in all the celebrations of its magical 50th anniversary.
In recent days, an account on Instagram of the user @ bmw43 published a recreation of what the new generation of the rear-wheel-drive sports car could look like. In this image, the design does not skimp on aggressive and aerodynamic details that show the true war paintings that the new “Bavarian warrior” could have.

Remember that the first BMW 2 Series replaced the 1 Series Coupé and Cabriolet seven years ago. Precisely a few days ago, the German brand revealed the essential information of the new generation Series 2, so that throughout 2022 the prominence should go to the M2.
If one trusts the “spy” photos even in the corresponding camouflage suit, the new M2 should ignore the oversized grille of its older M3 and M4 brothers. However, it should sport a slightly larger double kidney grille than the current model to follow the evolution of the BMW range and get closer to the recent 2 Series Gran Coupé.
From a technical point of view, certain sources of information predict that the next M2 should be based on a modified version of the platform of the new M4 and, therefore, could gain a few millimeters in length compared to its predecessor.

BMW M2 2022 Engine
Unlike the front-wheel-drive 2 Series Gran Coupe, the entire 2 Series Coupé 2 series will continue to feature the classic front-engine / rear-wheel drive technical setup and the M2 will be well equipped with an in-line six-cylinder engine.

In this regard, we can expect to find the 3.0 Biturbo block of the latest M3 and M4, always associated, with the lucky customer’s choice, with a manual or automatic gearbox. Its power could go up to 440 hp in the basic configuration to approach 450 hp in the later special version M2 CS (compared to 480 hp for the M3 and M4). These levels of figures would represent an increase of 30 hp compared to the M2 Competition that is offered today.
