Audi plans to launch the sixth generation of its A4 saloon throughout 2023, a model that will still have diesel, gasoline, and some other surprise versions…
The German firm Audi is immersed in all the development and tuning processes of one of its most important cars from a commercial point of view: the A4. In this case, the Ingolstadt-based brand is finalizing preparations for the launch of the new sixth generation of this famous sedan, whose production version should be ready throughout 2023, both in its conventional sedan-type variant and in the more versatile and spacious Family Avant.
The German manufacturer has been offering the Audi A4 B9 (Type 8W) since 2015 and in 2020 it underwent a major facelift. The new generation of the Audi A4 will appear in 2023, three years before the company exclusively markets purely electric cars. In the official plans of the brand with the four rings, it is also contemplated to stop producing combustion engines almost completely in 2033.
Regarding the new A4 2023 (or sixth generation A4), several prototypes with the corresponding “camouflage suit” on their bodywork have been sighted in recent weeks in various parts of Europe. According to the recreations made by our illustrator Schulte and according to the spy images published on some web pages of the motor world, the new generation of the German sedan will present several novelties in terms of design.
In this way, everything suggests that the front area of the model and its front grille will appear wider and in a somewhat lower position compared to the vehicle that is currently being marketed. This front end will be flanked by narrow headlights, which jut out slightly into the fenders but remain hidden under ‘camouflage’.

In the side view, a strong lip on the doors and a slightly rising lower window line should stand out. The pronounced rear slope of the roof, according to the unofficial information available at the moment, will provide a very dynamic and aerodynamic image to the Avant family version. As for the exterior dimensions, they are expected to be practically the same as the current model.
Inside, we expect several changes, with an instrument panel with a large screen and then, almost forming a single unit, the screen of the multimedia system. Likewise, the screens will also be able to show augmented reality images.
Audi A4 2023 Engine
With the market launch in 2023, the A4 will be one of the last models to launch with the latest combustion engines, but like its predecessor, it will be based on the latest evolution of the Modular Longitudinal Technical Platform (MLB-Evo). This means a longitudinal installation of the engines and front-wheel drive as standard, with Quattro all-wheel drive available as an option.
To comply with the latest emissions regulations, a 48-volt mild-hybrid micro-hybrid system is expected to be associated with both diesel and gasoline versions (the brand’s mechanical engineers would be working on a new evolution of the 2.0 TFSI gasoline engine four-cylinder and the corresponding four-cylinder 2.0 TDI engine). Regarding the plug-in hybrid variant, a higher capacity battery is expected that will guarantee greater autonomy in purely electric driving mode and also lower fuel consumption. For its part, the Audi Sport sports department should also be responsible for the tuning of the corresponding S4 and RS 4 versions.
As of 2024, in the range of the German firm, the new A4 e-Tron should debut, that is, the purely electric A4. In this case, the vehicle in question will be developed under the specific technical platform for electric vehicles PPE (Premium Platform Electric), which is being developed and perfected together with Porsche. Under this PPE platform, the Q6 e-Tron, the A6 e-Tron, and the Porsche e-Macan are also confirmed.
In the case of the promising and unprecedented A4 e-Tron in its RS variant, the total power of its electric motors should exceed 500 hp with a maximum torque of about 600 nm, while the estimated autonomy should be around 700 kilometers.
