It’s official: Alfa Romeo will launch a new SUV, in addition to the recently announced Tonale. The name is not confirmed yet, but it could be Brennero and be like this…
Alfa Romeo confirmed it a few months ago: the brand does not want to sell iPads, it wants cars with emotion. With these words, the Italian vehicle manufacturer distanced itself from a general trend to create cars with increasingly technological interiors and larger screens, but which renounce the passion for driving and sportsmanship. However, that does not mean far from it that the firm is going to dispense with fashionable cars … even if they are SUVs.
This is confirmed, at least, by his last two pieces of information. If we already know what its next product will be like, the Tonale compact SUV that you can find out about in detail here, today we anticipate that a new SUV is already under development for next year, but this time smaller and that will be located, precisely, below the new Tonale already announced.
Specifically, this time we are talking about a new SUV, or crossover, which will compete in the B market segment. This has already been confirmed by the CEO of Alfa Romeo, Jean-Philippe Imparato, in an interview with Automotive News Europe. This new model is already part of the brand’s new strategy, once consolidated under the new umbrella of the Stellantis Group.
AFTER THE TONALE, THE ALFA WILL ARRIVE… Brennero ?
The new plans are already to launch a big reveal every year throughout this decade, until the year 2030. Therefore, after the Tonale was unveiled a few days ago, the next big model that could be announced next year will be this new SUV. Although there is no official confirmation either, all bets are already pointing to the fact that it could be called Alfa Brennero.

The CEO of Alfa Romeo also advances more data, such as that it will be the first 100% electric model of the brand. As it is already part of the Stellantis Group, logic also makes us indicate that this new SUV is already being developed under the platform of the new Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka or DS 3, so it will almost certainly have an offer of combustion and, possibly, with a 100% electric variant that could come a little later. The SUVs that come out of that same platform already have EV versions.
If we take a look at the utility SUVs that already come out of this same platform within the Stellantis Group, logic would indicate that the new Alfa Brennero would do without its more humble access versions due to its more premium approach, to possibly offer a range composed of the 155 hp PureTech gasoline engine and the 130 hp BlueHDi diesel. The current 100% electric version has 136 hp and a range of 340 kilometers.
Among the objectives also announced by Alfa Romeo, we find a great brand in the spotlight: BMW. For the Italian company, its strategy is already in the coming years to consolidate itself as a competitor of the German firm, both in price and in product level. All the next launches will be directed in this next decade in this same sense.
